Our Passion for Pets
By Dr. Kristin Wojcik
One of my favorite quotes attributed to Anatole France is this: “Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains
unawakened.” This truly captures the spirit of Skycrest Animal Clinic. We treat your dear pets like our own, and strive to go above
and beyond what is expected concerning an animal’s health. If clients leave Skycrest without an understanding of a patient care
plan, then we have not done our job.
The longevity of our amazing team and how well we know our clients is what sets us apart from other hospitals. Dr. Locke, Dr.
Shears, Dr. Wilner and I have been practicing at Skycrest for nearly 15 years. We were lucky enough to have Dr. Burke and Dr. Jethani
join our team, too. The majority of our support staff has been together between 10 and 30 years. When you love what you do, the
years go by in a flash.
My husband, Don, and I moved to Long Grove nearly 20 years ago. We have three active children in sports, scouts, horseback riding
and church. I always joke that I can’t go to the grocery store or a school function without chatting with a handful of clients about
their animals.
In 1996 when I stepped into the charming little hospital with the trademark red front door I knew it would be my forever home. Dr.
Fred Rader started Skycrest in 1967 and handed the reins to me in 2001. Recently, Skycrest had a major facelift. My goal was to
make clients feel instantly at home. The majority of the budget went towards updating technology, equipment and the addition of
our surgical and dental suites.
The support we give to clients is both medical and emotional. We strive to give patients the best outcome possible. (When there are
no good options, we just have to kick the heck out of plan B!) Whether it’s a mass that is cancerous or a cough that leads to heart
failure, we always let pet owners know that it takes great courage to make that final decision for a beloved pet. This is the
emotional part of our job that is not learned in a vet school classroom. You just pray the words and strength will come to you.
Our pets are the heart and soul of a family. After all, who is the first family member to leap off the couch to give you a warm
welcome? Everyone who walks through our red door has a story. Let us be a part of yours!

To our clients that have been so patient,
Some of you may have experienced a power outage in your home, effecting your phone lines and
computers like we did today b at Skycrest. Unfortunately, even with back up generators and surge
protection, our server and phone lines were affected. We apologize for the inconvenience this may
have caused you, as our phone lines were down all day. Chani, our project manager, worked tirelessly
through the night to get the computers up and running. The great new is that all of our data was
restored! The only thing that was lost were any appointments made or canceled yesterday. If you
made or canceled an appointment yesterday, please give us a call today to have it scheduled again.
Please know our Skycrest team is trying their very best to serve you and your family. Hopefully there
will not be any more issues this week! As always, thank you for trusting us with your dear pets. We
look forward to welcoming you back into Skycrest when life is finally back to normal. We miss you,
but are so grateful to care for your pets.
Sincerely,
Dr. Wojcik
Dear Skycrest Family,
Since our last email to you the government and health organizations have made many new changes and recommendations. The
situation is changing rapidly, and to do our part in slowing the spread of the virus, we have decided to temporarily change all
appointments to curbside visits.
What does this mean for you and your pet? When you arrive at the clinic please call our main number, 847-634-3538, to let our
front desk know you are here to check in. Please give them a number you can be reached at and the make and color of your car.
When the doctor is ready to see your pet, a technician will come out to get your pet. Please have your pet on a leash or in a
carrier and bring them out of your car to meet the technician. The doctor will perform the exam and call you with their findings
and treatment recommendations. They will then transfer you to the front desk to arrange payment. Once the treatments have
been performed, the technician will bring your pet back out to you with any food or medications that the doctor recommends.
We are doing our very best to ensure that we are open and available for you and your pet during this challenging time. Our focus
is, as always, the health and safety of our employees, clients, patients and community. If you would rather reschedule your pet's
appointment at this time we completely understand that as well. We do ask that if you are experiencing any cold or flu symptoms
to please have a family member or friend bring your pet in.
For anyone picking up medications or food refills please call our office when you arrive and the front desk will take payment over
the phone and then will bring your items out to your car.
